Program Overview

We would like to invite you to the 2025 West Virginia Trauma Symposium to be held at the Stonewall Resort, Roanoke, WV. This conference is designed for trauma surgeons, general surgeons, emergency room physicians, nurses, pharmacists, mid-level providers, prehospital health care providers, coding specialists, and health information professionals. A Trauma Registrar workshop and Rural Trauma Team Development Course will be presented as separate meetings on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. This conference will represent a collaborative effort between state and national experts in various trauma disciplines from around WV and the United States. The speakers will present progressive and challenging issues in the field of trauma care. Committee meetings will begin Friday afternoon February 7, 2025. The State Trauma Audit Review Presentations will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025. All conference attendees are invited to attend.

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
  • Review current treatment in acute fracture care.
  • Review and discuss the digital transformations in medicine.
  • Identify new treatments in the care of surgical rib fixation.
  • Discuss current developments in provider wellness.
  • Examine trauma performance improvement and its impact on patient outcomes.
  • Discuss guidelines for interfacility transports.
  • Discuss the current guidelines, treatment and management of brain injuries.
  • Review the treatment of pilon fractures.
  • Review current treatments in geriatric trauma.
  • Discuss current treatment strategies in managing post-traumatic stress disorder.
  • Review current treatment and care of the addicted patient.
  • Discuss current management and treatments of snake bites.
  • Review the current management in the obstetrical trauma patient.
  • Discuss pre-hospital protocols and whole blood program.
  • Review current treatments in amputation management.
  • Explain current practices in the packaging of the pediatric patient
