Why family medicine: I chose family medicine because it reflects my values and experiences working in diverse, underserved communities. These experiences taught me how to connect with patients from different backgrounds and adapt my communication to make health care more accessible. I believe empowering patients through education and preventive care is the best way to improve both individual and community health.

Sakshi Bhardwaj, MD

Medical School: Caribbean Medical University School of Medicine

Hometown: Chandigarh, India
Fun fact: During my first semester of medical school, I was the only student in class. A hurricane canceled my classmates' flights, so I had one-on-one lectures with professors. It turned out to be a fun, unique and unforgettable experience!
Hobbies: Traveling on cruises, listening to music, traveling, being a vegetarian and a foodie. I enjoy exploring different vegetarian food options.
Why CAMC: From the moment I walked into CAMC, something just clicked — like I had found where I truly belong. I wasn't just welcomed; I was embraced like family by everyone
— seniors, attendings, nurses and staff. What stood out most was the working environment — not just supportive, but deeply kind. Titles don't create distance here. Seniors feel more like friends than superiors, and attendings treat you with genuine warmth and respect. Everyone works toward a common goal: helping you learn, grow and become confident in your own practice. We laugh together, learn together and, when someone needs help, we step in — not because it's expected, but because we care. You're given the space to be independent, but you're never alone. Attendings and seniors are always there before you even ask — guiding with patience and always cheering you on. Training at one of the largest hospital systems in the state means daily exposure to a wide range of complex and diverse cases. But more than just seeing the pathology, you're taught how to think — how to approach a case, build a management plan and navigate challenges with growing confidence. That kind of hands-on learning prepares you for real-world, independent practice. For me, CAMC is not just a program — it became my home and family, it truly felt like a key fitting perfectly into its lock. And I truly believe it can feel the same for you.
Why family medicine: Family medicine aligns with everything | value in medicine — continuity, trust and whole-person care. Just as I care for my own family, I want to be there for my patients at every stage of life, supporting their health and well-being throughout their journey.
Future plans: In the future, I hope to become a physician who fosters strong, long-lasting relationships with my patients. I want my patients to feel comfortable reaching out to me with their concerns, knowing they will be heard without hesitation or judgment. My goal is to create a practice environment where continuity, trust, and compassion are central — where I'm not just seen as a doctor, but as a reliable partner in their lifelong health journey.
