Mark Gustafson, DO, FACEP
Dr. Mark Gustafson graduated from Lincoln Memorial University- Debusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) in 2012. He then completed an Emergency Medicine Residency at Charleston Area Medical Center in 2016, where he was Chief Resident. Upon completion of residency, Dr. Gustafson stayed at CAMC and started teaching as core faculty for the CAMC Emergency Medicine Residency Program. In 2018, Dr. Gustafson was named Associate Program Director where he served for two years until being named program director in 2020.
Dr. Gustafson is a diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and serves as a board member for the WV Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He has a strong interest in medical education, feedback, mentorship, resident wellness, simulation and research. Dr. Gustafson serves as a journal reviewer and has research interests that include medical education, feedback, simulation, lactic acid, emergency cardiology and venous thromboembolism.
In his free time Dr. Gustafson enjoys spending time with his wife and their two kids, golfing and playing guitar.
Adam Crawford, DO, FACEP
Adam Crawford, DO, is a distinguished leader in emergency medicine, having graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012. He completed his residency at Charleston Area Medical Center in 2016 and became a core faculty member for the Emergency Medicine residency program shortly after. In 2017, he took on the role of Medical Director for CAMC’s General Division Emergency Department, eventually becoming the Chairman in 2023 and serving as Chief since 2020.
In 2024, Dr. Crawford furthered his expertise by earning an MBA focused on health care from West Virginia University. He is actively involved with the American College of Emergency Physicians, serving as a national councilor and a board member for the West Virginia Chapter, where he has also held the position of past president.
His clinical interests encompass airway and ventilator management, trauma care and emergency department operations, particularly concerning boarding and throughput. Outside his professional commitments, Dr. Crawford enjoys traveling, skiing, golfing and attending sporting events with his wife and three children.
Brian Hensley, MD
Brian Hensley, MD, FACEP, received his medical degree from Marshall University School of Medicine in 2012. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency in Greenville, NC, at East Carolina University in 2015. Dr. Hensley returned to his home state and began working at CAMC as a core faculty member of the residency in 2016. In 2017, Dr. Hensley was appointed the Clerkship Director and served in this capacity until being appointed Associate Program Director in 2024.
Brent Brash II, DO
William "Brent" Brash II, DO, graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) in 2017. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Charleston Area Medical Center in 2020. After graduating from residency, Dr. Brash accepted a position as a Clinical Core Faculty member for CAMC's Emergency Medicine Residency program. After working and teaching in this role for three years, he progressed into his current role as an Academic Core Faculty member. Dr. Brash also currently holds the role of our residency's Clerkship Director, where he strives to provide our students with the best experience possible while rotating in the Emergency Department. He serves as the residency Simulation Education Coordinator, planning monthly didactics sessions based on high-fidelity simulation cases and skills stations. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
Outside of work, Dr. Brash enjoys spending time with his wife, Brittany, and his two dogs, Huckleberry and Nala. They enjoy traveling, hiking, fishing, kayaking and exploring this great state and nation. He is a Mountaineer through and through. He was born and raised in West Virginia and loves to promote its natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Christy Shaw, MS, C-TAGME
Christy Shaw was born and raised in West Virginia, and earned a BS in Exercise Physiology from WVU School of Medicine and an MS in Athletic Training from California University of PA. She worked several years as a certified athletic trainer in Pennsylvania and Virginia, providing medical care for collegiate sports along with classroom and clinical instruction to undergraduate students. After returning to West Virginia, she worked in private insurance for a workers’ compensation third-party administrator until joining the CAMC Graduate Medical Education department. Her hobbies and interests include outdoor recreation, home improvement projects and reading historical fiction.
