Welcome to CAMC University!  Founded in 2004, the University is committed to providing non-clinical learning and organization development solutions at Charleston Area Medical Center.  Our goal is to build organizational talent to enable the fulfillment of CAMC’s Mission of “Striving to provide the best health care to every patient, every day.”  

The CAMC Leadership System is the foundation for all that we do.  The University works in partnership with leaders, human resources and education to provide a “pathway” throughout the CAMC Health System to build leadership competency and capacity.  We also provide offerings for all CAMC employees to further their development. 

Strong capable leadership is an imperative for a strong capable workforce.  A strong capable workforce is key to our success!  Our staff is here to support CAMC on that journey.

Leigh Chaney, MSIR, CMF, PHR

Director, CAMC University

Leigh Chaney is the Corporate Director of the CAMC University for the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine. She holds a Master of Science in Industrial Relations and a Bachelor of Science in Public Service. Leigh has over 40 years of professional experience in the energy and health care industries with a primary emphasis in Organization Development, Change Management and Human Resources. She holds several certifications including:  Everything DiSC Workplace; Prosci's Change Management Methodology, Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), and Linkage's Certificate in Organization Development. She has received certifications as a Certified Competent Facilitator (CCF); Professional Facilitator (CPF); as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR); as a Vital Smarts Crucial Conversations Trainer and Crucial Accountability Trainer; certified Influencer Facilitator, and Bob Pike certified Instructional Designer. Leigh is also a DDI Facilitator for their Leadership Development and Targeted Selection Programs; and certified as an EQi-2 Facilitator. Throughout her career, she has partnered with leaders across an organization's footprint to provide strategic internal consultative and facilitative support in the areas of change, coaching, leadership and employee development, facilitation, meeting planning and design, talent review and succession planning, teambuilding, process improvement and performance management.

Pam Brown, MS

Certified Career Coach

Pam Brown is the Lead Organizational Development Consultant of CAMC University for the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine and holds a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership Development. Pam has 20+ years of experience in areas of leadership and management and 10 years in Organizational Development and Change Management. She holds certifications as a Certified Career Coach, an EQi and DiSC certified facilitator, a DDI and Crucial Learning Crucial Conversations, Crucial Accountability, and Influencer Facilitator, and a Bob Pike certified Instructional Designer. Pam is a graduate of the first CAMC Change Cadre Program (2017-2019) where she served not only as a participant but as a coach and mentor to many of her fellow cadre members. Pam has participated in many committees and councils across the organization including the Service Excellence Committee and the Standards Team, the Best Place to Learn Council, and she led the Change Champion Network through the Cerner Revolution transition. Throughout her career at CAMC, she has been committed to lifelong learning and helping others discover their full potential. Pam provides consultation, coaching and facilitation in the areas of change management, facilitation techniques, problem-solving techniques, meeting planning and design, leadership and employee development, teambuilding, and performance management. Pam is a member of the Society of Emotional Intelligence, Society for Human Resource Management, the OD Network, ATD International and WV ATD Chapter.

Janette Dawson, MSHRM

Organizational Development Specialist

Janette Dawson is the Organizational Development Program Coordinator of the CAMC University for the Institute for Academic Medicine. Janette holds a Regent Bachelor of Arts in Business and is currently pursuing her Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management at Marshall University. Janette owned her own business and has over 20 years of experience and knowledge in business management and operations. Janette has completed her Leadership Development Path through CAMC University and is dedicated to lifelong learning. Janette is committed to helping others learn and achieve their full potential. Janette is passionate about finding the appropriate classes for those interested in developing their leadership skills. Janette is a certified trainer through The Bob Pike Group and is a certified Crucial Conversations and Getting Things Done facilitator through Crucial Learning. Janette is a member of The OD Network, ATD International, the WV ATD Chapter and SHRM.
