Residency Schedule
The residency is built in 13 four-week blocks.
PGL 1 year is a categorical medicine year spent primarily with the Internal Medicine Department, where you will join other categorical program interns, preliminary program interns and internal medicine interns. There are ten weeks of neurology, four of which are at the end of the training year to prepare for promotion to neurology.
The PGL 2 year is the first year of neurology residency and is the beginning of intensive training in neurology. This year is focused on inpatient neurology and learning the fundamentals of common neurologic disorders. The schedule is an X2 + Y format, where residents have regular breaks of less intense or outpatient months admixed with the more intense inpatient rotations.
PGL 2 year consists of:
- Four weeks of Bootcamp, with introduction to the neurologic examination, consultative medicine, neuroradiology, and EEG mini fellowship, as well as Emergency Neurologic Life Support curriculum.
- 24 weeks of Inpatient neurology, including four weeks of Night float
- Eight weeks of Outpatient neurology, independent of continuity clinic
- Four weeks of Child neurology
- Four weeks of Epilepsy/EEG
- Four weeks of Neurological Intensive Care Unit
- Four weeks of Psychiatry Consult service
The PGL 3 year is designed to expose you to subspecialty rotations within neurology that will aid in application to fellowship if desired. This year is a predominantly outpatient year, which sees you growing more independent in practice, with increased teaching and supervisory experience.

The PGL 4 year is a mixed year that continues to focus on your growth as a clinician and development of your leadership skills, alongside progressive management of neurologic patients and teaching exposure. The goal of the PGL 4 year is that you begin to develop a professional identity while growing into an independent neurologist with excellent clinical practice.
PGL 4 year consists of:

Many of these patients have chronic disease conditions and will follow with you in clinic throughout the course of your residency.
