Education and training: Pediatrics Residency - Marshall University, Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine
Interests in medicine: Deeply passionate about primary prevention in pediatrics, focusing on maximizing the impact of each patient encounter. Committed to attentive listening and understanding each family's unique circumstances, recognizing that individualized care leads to better outcomes. Emphasizes providing thoughtful, tailored guidance and education to empower patients and families to thrive. Dedicated to holistic care that addresses both immediate health concerns and long-term well-being. Actively engage in child health advocacy at the state level, working to shape legislation that supports happy, healthy families. Believes in the power of preventive care and early intervention to set the foundation for lifelong health. Continually seeks to bridge the gap between clinical practice and public health policy to create comprehensive support systems for children and families.
Interests outside of medicine: When not in the hospital, I'm often found exploring the abundant outdoor activities that West Virginia has to offer. I'm an avid traveler, always excited to experience new places and cultures alongside my wife and daughter. At home, I enjoy unwinding with video games and diving into books on various topics, particularly those focused on leadership development. However, my favorite pastime these days revolves around my daughter Audrey. Whether it's tea parties, impromptu dance sessions or backyard adventures, I've discovered the joy of seeing the world through her eyes. Her curiosity and enthusiasm have reshaped my free time in the most wonderful ways, reminding me daily of the simple pleasures in life. Balancing professional growth with family time, I'm constantly amazed at how my personal interests enrich both my role as a physician and as a father.
Favorite publication or academic achievement: While I've contributed to several publications in my field, I am particularly drawn to the most recent febrile neonate guidelines. This work stands out to me for its content and thoughtful approach to patient care. What I appreciate most is how these guidelines skillfully blend risk assessment, evidence-based recommendations and supporting data into a cohesive framework. The most compelling aspect is the guidelines' emphasis on fostering transparent conversations with families. They provide a solid foundation for ensuring informed consent and promoting shared decision-making. This approach resonates with my belief in the importance of clear communication and family involvement in pediatric care. Reading these guidelines reminds me why I entered this field - to provide care that is not only medically sound but also respectful of each family's unique circumstances and choices. Publications like these continue to inspire and inform my practice as a pediatric hospitalist.
